Master of Ceremonies: Dan Dooley
Special Guest Band: Not Affiliated Big Band
The Barrie Concert Band will be presenting two great music masters for Christmas this year; the music of Tchaikovsky and the style of Duke Ellington.
The Nutcracker Suite has become a seasonal favourite worldwide since its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg on Sunday, December 18, 1892. Among the many staged forms, Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn put their own stamp on this music in 1960 featuring jazz impressions of the Nutcracker.
The Barrie Concert Band will be performing original orchestrations as intended by Tchaikovsky, and the Not Affiliated Big Band will be performing the swinging music of Duke Ellington. Each movement of the Nutcracker will be programmed together so we can enjoy the genius of these two great composers.
Tickets: Adults $20, Seniors/Students $15, Under 5 Free
Ticket Sales & Outlets: To be announced in October.
Tickets will also be available from band members and at the door.
